I've had a busy six weeks of comics buying.

First up - I finished by CGC Doctor Solar collection.

I'm not a huge Doctor Solar fan but started buying the slabs 2-3 years ago when I was close enough on my Magnus set that buying opportunities there dried up.

The goal here was less ambitious -- say, 9.0 floor with a 9.2 average for # 1-31. (Whereas for Magnus my goal was 9.4+).

While my Doctor Solar # 22 is still a lowly CGC 8.5, last month I finished off the run with with purchases of:

# 4 - 9.4
# 8 - 9.4
# 9 - 9.4
# 10 - 9.4

I've now reached an average of 9.3 for the set, good for # 2 on the registry.

Set listing may be seen here (w/ the caveat that the # 4 is still in the mail, hence not yet listed): https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/PeopleSetDetail.aspx?PeopleSetID=56097

I'm proud of this mainly because it was an afterthought -- a side project while I focused on Magnus.

And since I wasn't in a rush, I don't think I overpaid for any of these books.

Hah! Will do, Whet.

I've still got fond memories of having dinner with you and your wife in Alexandria, Va.

And that the night we met I had a Venom # 1 (black) in my backpack that had just arrived in the mail.

Picked up my first 9.8 issue of Doctor Solar this week.

Unfortunately, it's one of the early '80s Whitmans rather than a Silver Age issue.

Still, # 30 in 9.8, for $130 shipped.

Since the # 2 registry set holder sold about a year ago, I'm comfortably sitting in the # 2 spot, but rocking an average of ~9.3 for my set.

I'm in no hurry to upgrade, but it's still a fun run of books.

I'm slowly working on Conan 1-24 in CGC 9.6 (think I have 7 of them so far).

And the McFarlane Hulk run in 9.8 McFarlane signature series (3/16 so far).

A rare Magnus upgrade was auctioned on Comiclink last night, but I didn't come close.

It was Magnus # 3, 9.6 (highest).

Went for $1,655, almost exactly $1,000 than I paid for my 9.4 copy a few years ago.

I may now be priced out of the market on Magnus upgrades, given that I bought the bulk of my set more than 5 years ago.

Prices have spiked on a lot of things. My future purchases will likely lean more towards eclectic and esoteric.
