Just made my biggest Magnus deal yet.

Trade plus (lots of) cash deal for a group of six new additions:

# 3 (9.4)
# 8 (9.6)
# 19 (9.6)
# 28 (9.6)
# 30 (9.6)
# 39 (9.6)

I'm almost done, y'all!

Gives me # 1-32 in solid CGC 9.4+, with # 1-10 (1963-64) in average CGC 9.5(!)

I'm now missing 4 issues below CGC 9.4, and 15 issues below CGC 9.6.

It's finally beginning to look like a world-class Silver Age run of books.

Thanks guys -- I'll start posting this weekend.

Some massive scanning, as I've also got (I believe) # 1-28 complete in Spanish.

Best -- discovered the Magnus # 3 is the Twin Cities pedigree.

These are my favorite Magnus books & probably favorite CGC pedigree. Proud to own Magnus # 3, 4, 6, 7 & 9 from the TC collection (all of which are at least tied for highest-graded).

8 of my first 10 are now highest-graded, as I'm missing only the # 1 (9.6) and # 5 (9.6).

From zero to a solid *best Silver Age run* in ~5 years. Thank you all for the support along the way. Love talking comics with you guys.

I can't afford it, but Heritage just listed the original painted cover art to Magnus # 1 will be up in its next auction.

As far as I'm concerned, there are two grails in the GK Magnus world -- the CGC 9.6 copy of issue # 1 (which sold via the CGC boards 15 months ago) and this.

All the more reason to work hard, get promoted & make more money so maybe I can afford this a decade hence...

You're making me regret selling my copies all those years ago. Razz

Well, I finally did it.

Received this book in the mail last week:

It's Magnus # 43, CGC 9.6.

And with that, I've completed my Gold Key Magnus set # 1-46 in CGC 9.0 or higher.

The set averages 9.6, and is currently just four books short of solid 9.4 or higher (# 33, 37, 45 & 46).

I'm hopeful I may achieve solid 9.4 or higher (i.e., complete those last four books) by year's end. Several candidates are at CGC now.

But the goal when I started back in Feb. 2011 was to compile a "World's Best" set of a Silver Age superhero run.

As of Jan. 2016, I feel I've achieved that goal.

Along the way I've completed a full set of the Mexican reprints (1-28) as well.

Still looking for upgrades (generally scattered 9.6s or 9.8s here & there) but I feel like the bulk of the work is done.

Having completed my baseline CGC set and the Mexican reprint set, I'm now venturing out into the other foreign reprints, as well as the tough 70s Whitmans.

New this week -- Dutch versions of # 8, # 11, & # 17!

Just got results back from my latest Magnus CGC submission, two copies of # 45.

One clocked in at 9.0 (color-breaking crease, right corner).
The other was a 9.6!

(I was expecting 9. 4on both)

This gives me the top 3 copies of # 45 on the census (9.6, 9.2, 9.0) but more importantly it brings me to 33 of 46 issues in CGC 9.6 or higher.

Applause

Do you have the highest graded collection on the CGC census by the way?

Yeah.

By a large margin. See here: http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/PeopleSetDetail.aspx?PeopleSetID=44535

Haven't received the # 45 today, but once added it will show my set contains:

9.8: 15
9.6: 18
9.4: 10
9.2: 1
9.0: 2

33/46 books in 9.6 or better.

That's solid for a Silver Age set.

And I'm just 3 books away from a solid 9.4 or better set.

Problem is none of those books exist yet -- so I'll have to find and buy high-grade copies to sub myself.

Ugh! That's the worst. Submissions that don't get the grade you were hoping.
