Just won this piece.

Original cover to Valiant's "Chaos Effect Alpha"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=380369374685

Best part is it wasn't for much more than some 9.8 red versions sold for as recently as 2010. Banana

In case the link I posted above doesn't work, here's another one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380369374685+#ht_742wt_1078

I can't upload it to photobucket myself because of the new proprietary eBay thing that prevents photo stealing.

Not a grail, but I picked this up along with the Chaos Effect cover.

It's the cover to Psi Lords # 3 by Mike Leeke with some cool Solar Destroyer action.

Thanks, Whet, but I'm sticking to just the inked pages for now.

It's been an interesting month for me, researching Original Art and deciding to slowly get my feet wet.

I've decided to try to go selectively after a) covers or b) pages from key issues and/or from key artists and runs as funds allow.

The stuff can get really expensive really quickly, but it's been fun reading up on valuations and sales.

I count about 20 other Valiant covers on the market right now, ranging from $150-$1,800 each, but they've all been around for at least a month and are overpriced.

Meanwhile, Kevin Eastman's variant cover to the new IDW TMNT # 1 sold last month on eBay for $2,500--a steal, if you could afford it.

I came close on his variant cover to issue # 2, but it didn't break the reserve.

Another Grail-y addition.

This one was a spur of the moment purchase, and is from a few months before my time as a comic book collector, but dang.

From last night's Heritage Auction. And I'm now broke and will be selling some books to help fund it.

All of the Liefeld Twitter blow-up news (his abruptly, and publicly, quitting all three DC 52 titles he was on--Deathstroke, Grifter and Hawkman) alerted me to his statement that he was going to sell all of his recent DC art out of spite.

So I picked up two of his five Deathstroke covers last night via eBay, #s 9 and 12.

The storyarc apparently has Deathstroke fighting lobo, shown in the reflection in # 12.

I thought these were wicked cheap for what they are: Liefeld covers of a 2nd tier, but solid DC character.

Another win:

Hawkman # 10, by Rob Liefeld.

Not as good as the other covers, but this was just over $300.

I'm not going to say too much. I'm not a fan of his art. I think it is cool to have representations of art by the industry leaders. He was one.

Both a good thing and a regret I have was not picking up a Manara piece of art years ago. It would have set me back $1000 when I really needed the money. I could have afforded it, but it would have been a struggle. It's a good thing that I wisely didn't spend the money. It's a regret that I don't own it.
